Born and raised in Oregon, Melissa is a work-at-home mom to a lovely 11-year-old daughter and wife to a wonderful man named Dustin.
She didn't set out to be a work-at-home mom. She had moved from manufacturing into technical writing at Hewlett-Packard Co., and by 1998, she had progressed into management there. When the company downsized in late 1998, Melissa and her (then new) husband jumped at the chance to leave and relocated to beautiful Bend, Oregon. There, she became a copywriter for an online marketing agency, but in late 2000, when she was on maternity leave and two weeks away from giving birth, the company was bought out and the Bend operations were moved to Connecticut. It was not an ideal time to find herself in need of a job, so she got creative.
Melissa began writing press releases and marketing copy on a freelance basis from home. The business did well, and though it wasn't easy raising a child and working at home (as most readers here would agree), she kept at it for 11 years.
Recently, in need of a change, Melissa began looking for something different. She came across Beachbody, the company that makes popular exercise videos like P90X, Insanity and TurboFire. She ordered the ChaLEAN Extreme workout from the company and was hooked. She had already lost 60 pounds on her own and knew she could help support and inspire others in their own weight loss journeys. Becoming a coach made sense.
That was in late August 2011. In November, she will start her first small-group fitness challenge, limited to five participants. Melissa is already planning the second challenge, which will begin Jan. 2, 2012 -- a perfect day to make big changes.
"Beachbody came into my life at just the right time," Melissa says. "I was ready to try something completely new, and I've always been interested in fitness and nutrition. The support and training from the company are phenomenal, and I'm even helping my mom to get healthier through exercise and better nutrition so she can better take care of my aging father. I absolutely love the feeling of helping people change their lives for the better."
